EXPLORE: Barclays Center

620 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217

The Barclays Center is a prominent multi-purpose indoor arena, and home to the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets as well as the WNBA’s New York Liberty. This famous arena features a variety of sports events, as well as entertainment events. The idea of creating Barclays Center was proposed by a real estate developer named Bruce Ratner in 2004, Ratner purchased the Brooklyn Nets for $300 million dollars as a first step to build a new home for the Nets. When Bruce acquired the basketball team, he sold many of his shares of the team to fund the arena with intention to move the team to Pacific Park on Brooklyn's Prospect Heights as a centerpiece of the Pacific Park commercial and residential redevelopment project.

When the Barclays Center finally opened on September 21, 2012, the following week JAY-Z had a sold-out concert show at the venue. The arena continued to host many world renowned performers like Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen. With the success of these events the Barclays Center became one of the most popular in the world, ranking at the top ten nationally in 2018 for a gross revenue and attendance by Billboard and Pollstar. The arena has a capacity of 19,000 seats for concerts, 17,732 seats for basketball, and over 101 luxury suites with many bars, lounges and clubs.

How do I get there?

The Barclays Center is located at 620 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217 in Downtown Brooklyn. There are numerous ways to reach the arena, the first choice is the subway by using the letter B,D,N, Q, R or number 2,3,4 and 5 trains that stop at Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center which is directly below the arena. Another choice is using Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Atlantic Terminal station that is located across the street from Barclays Center. Lastly the bus is another choice of transportation, by using the B25, B26, B37, B38, B41, B45, B52, B63, B65, B67, and B103 buses all of them make stops near the arena.

How is the Neighborhood?

The arena is surrounded by the Atlantic Terminal which is a very big multilevel center with many varieties of stores, several dining options and plenty of special events. Down the street from the arena, lies one of the biggest public parks in Brooklyn and it is called Prospect Park. Prospect Park is a historic landmark for Brooklyn that has many activities for people to enjoy like Prospect Park Zoo, Prospect Park Lake, and a lot more. A short distance away from the park is the iconic Brooklyn Museum, it is the second largest art museum in New York that contains over 500,000 of art objects. You must see this part of Brooklyn, you will enjoy all of the excitement that awaits you here.

If you want to see any more sport related stadiums or arenas in New York City, I have written articles about Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.
